Nvidia and AMD have entered into an unprecedented financial arrangement with the TRUMP administration, agreeing to surrender 15% of their China-based chip sales revenues in exchange for export licenses. The deal covers Nvidia's H20 chips and AMD's MI308 processors, though the government's intended use for these funds remains undetermined.
The commerce department began issuing export licenses shortly after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with President Trump. This revenue-sharing mandate marks a radical departure from traditional export control mechanisms, with no historical precedent for such corporate payments to secure market access.
